MBE score transfer (non-UBE states) — VA, FL, MI(reciprocal-only), WV, WI, others

A distinct, less-known portability path: several non-UBE (or partially-UBE) jurisdictions authorize NCBE to transfer a candidate's raw MBE (Multistate Bar Exam) scaled score — separate from the UBE's combined score — to another jurisdiction that accepts transferred MBE scores, letting a candidate skip re-taking the MBE portion of a second state's own exam.

NextGen UBE transition — early adopters (Summer/Fall 2026 cluster)

These jurisdictions are the FIRST to administer the NextGen UBE, in July 2026, at passing scores of 616 (CT/ID/MD) or 610 (MO) or 615/620 (OR) — and all begin ACCEPTING transferred NextGen UBE scores starting July 2026 as well, making them a fast early cluster for candidates who sit the new exam first.

Attorneys' Examinations as a quasi-portability shortcut (CA, RI, OK, ID)

Several non-AOM or limited-AOM states instead offer a shortened 'Attorneys' Examination' (essays + performance test only, no MCQ) to already-licensed, experienced attorneys — not true reciprocity, but a faster/cheaper alternative to a full first-time bar exam. This is the practical workaround candidates use when a state (like CA) has zero reciprocity.
